ECBCurrencies – Support

Thank you for using Currencies, the currency converter for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch built on the official European Central Bank (ECB) euro reference rates.

If your question isn’t answered below, contact us at info@plagens.dev — please include your app version, device, and iOS/watchOS version.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

All rates are the official Euro foreign exchange reference rates published by the European Central Bank (ECB). The app fetches them directly from the ECB’s public data service — there is no middleman and no separate rate provider.

Why didn’t the rates change today?

The ECB publishes reference rates once per business day, at around 16:00 CET. On weekends and on TARGET closing days (European public holidays) no new rates are published, so the app keeps showing the most recent available rates. The date and time of the last successful update are shown in the list, above the full currency list.

Are these the rates my bank will give me?

No. ECB reference rates are for information only. They are not real-time market rates and not transaction rates, and they will usually differ from the rates offered by banks, card issuers, and exchange bureaus. Please don’t use them for actual market transactions.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Without a connection, the app keeps working with the most recently downloaded rates and shows when they were last updated. New rates are fetched automatically the next time you’re online.

How do I convert an amount?

Tap any currency in the list to open the calculator. Type the amount on the built-in keypad — the converted value updates as you type. Tap the other currency’s row in the calculator to enter an amount in that currency instead, and use the preset keys (10 / 20 / 50 / 100) for quick amounts.

What is the reference currency, and how do I change it?

The reference currency is the one shown at the top of the list; all rates in the list are expressed against it. To change it, swipe a currency to the right and choose “Set as reference”, or long-press the currency and pick it from the menu.

How do I manage favorites?

Swipe a currency to the left to add it to (or remove it from) your favorites, or long-press for the same options. To reorder favorites, long-press a favorite and choose “Rearrange favorites”, then drag the rows; tap Done when finished.

How does the Apple Watch app work?

The watch app is a standalone converter: pick a currency on either row by tapping its currency code, and tap an amount to enter a new one on the keypad. The watch fetches rates from the ECB on its own, and additionally syncs your favorites and reference currency from the iPhone. If the watch shows outdated preferences, open the Currencies app on the iPhone once — the sync heals itself from there.

Which currencies are included?

Every currency in the ECB’s daily reference-rate publication (around 30, including USD, GBP, CHF, JPY, and more). Cross-rates between any two currencies are computed on the device from the euro-based rates. When the ECB adds or suspends a currency, the app follows automatically.

Which languages and devices are supported?

The app is localized in English (US, UK, Australia, India), German, and Spanish. It runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 18.6 or later) and Apple Watch (watchOS 11.6 or later).

Is my data collected?

No. See the privacy policy for details.
